Grand Master's Charity: Fisher Houses of Washington, DC

Fisher House of Washington, DC

The Grand Master of the District of Columbia has selected the Fisher Houses of Washington, DC, as the Odd Fellows charitable project of the Grand Lodge for 2009.

Each year, the Grand Master of Odd Fellows of the District of Columbia selects a charity as a special philanthropic project for the jurisdiction.  In March 2009, at his installation, the Grand Master announced his project for the term will be the Fisher Houses at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, DC.

Fisher Houses provide accommodations, free of charge, to families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers, where they may attend to and support the recovery of our wounded service men and women. The homes are normally located within walking distance of the treatment facility or have transportation available. There are 43 Fisher Houses located on eighteen military installations and twelve Veterans Administration medical centers.  There are three Fisher Houses at Walter Reed.  Two of the three DC Fisher Houses are located on the "main campus" of the hospital, at 5900 Georgia Avenue, NW, Washington, DC.  The third is three and a half miles away.

More information is available online about the Fisher House Foundation, and the Fisher Houses of Washington, DC.

The Grand Master encourages brothers and sisters of the Order in the District of Columbia, and throughout our nation, to consider making a personal contribution to this excellent cause.  The Combined Federal Campaign number for the DC Fisher Houses is: 51542.
